Designated “quiet time” and music – it’s a paradoxical relationship but a powerful, healing combination. American DJ, singer and songwriter Richard Melville Hall, otherwise known as Moby, has released four free hours of meditation music, accessible to anyone who is interested in adding new ambience to their quiet spaces. The artist is a leading influencer in both the electronic music and vegan communities. He has collaborated with artists such as Daft Punk, Britney Spears, David Bowie and Metallica. His latest album, “These Systems are Failing” was recently released in late 2016. Moby also runs his own vegan restaurant, “Little Pine,” in Los Angeles, one of his many displays of animal rights activism.

The four-hour set is Moby’s personal collection of “slow calm pretty chords” stringed together over the years to aid his own meditation, yoga sessions, sleep schedule and recovery from panic attacks. No drums or vocals are included, meaning a maintained insular state for your next practice.

There isn’t a human I know who hasn’t experienced some form of healing through music, whether it be a simple mood booster or a gentle reminder that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves. I encourage you to download and get creative with Moby’s music ASAP. In meditation and yoga, soothing, melodic sounds can function as an alternative for one’s object of focus (as opposed to breath). Some experts also consider solely sitting and listening to music in a dark room as an effective sub form of meditation. At bedtime, turn on these sounds to help lower your heart rate and slow breathing. There’s no denying a release of relaxing, feel-good chemicals when we cruise through a slow, calming tune (preferably 60-80 bpm).

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my journey to a more balanced, healthier life it’s that mental and emotional health are just as important as physical health. As much as we may love the hustle and bustle of today, “quiet time” is was ensures our longevity and endurance for tomorrow.

Moby’s set is free for download or streaming on Spotify, Soundcloud, Apple Music, Deezer, Youtube and Tidal. Get listening, breathe and enjoy.
